In Japan, broken ceramics were repaired traditionally using a technique called kintsugi; rather than hiding the line of fracture, kintsugi consists of decorating the broken edge with lacquer and gold powder. In this product, we used kintsugi as a metaphor. The line of gold that appear on the surface of the repaired ceramic works as a conductive surface, with which we can interact to control a nearby light. By augmenting the action of repairing with lacquer and beautifying the line of fracture with gold, a novel type of recycled product which combine craft and digital technology was created.
