OUR THEME

For the COLLECTIBLE Fair 2025 exhibition in Belgium, we further enhanced last year's research and used sustainable materials along with cutting-edge technology to reconstruct the spirit of Shitsurai.

This work seeks to visually express the spirit of “Shitsurai” (room arrangement), deeply rooted in Japanese culture. It explores themes of harmony with nature, the beauty of wabi-sabi, the spirit of hospitality, and the fusion of tradition and modernity while conveying a sense of stillness and the passage of time.

By incorporating space and fragmented motifs of nature, it creates a space that invites viewers to freely imagine, quietly evoking a sense of the ephemeral and the eternal in balance. In Japan, harmonizing with nature through room decoration is highly valued.

For instance, changing hanging scrolls or flowers according to the season, or using simple materials, creates a feeling of bringing the outdoors inside. “Shitsurai” is not mere decoration; it is a means of reflecting the flow of time and the rhythms of nature in daily life.

“Shitsurai” deeply embodies the aesthetic sensibility of “wabi-sabi.” It favours imperfect beauty and understated decoration. For example, rather than filling a space with lavish furniture, it emphasizes minimal elements and space to evoke a sense of calm and beauty.

This artwork utilizes a technique using the raw materials of traditional Japanese papermaking, including the Kozo and Neri to drop water droplets at any desired position using an NC plotter and create washi paper from digital data. It achieves a new aesthetic that was previously impossible with conventional washi paper.

[ Fragmented Landscape ]
The spirit of plant life is captured, offering a fresh interpretation of the ever-evolving garden panorama shaped by diverse vegetation. Through the lens, the landscape is fragmented, giving rise to a captivating, reconstructed image that fuses tradition with innovation.

Plants transcend their role as mere elements of nature, becoming a medium to convey emotions and concepts. The delicate curves of flowers and the vibrant green of leaves symbolically express the fragility of life and the power of growth. In plant-based installations, the passage of time and the relationship with the environment are visualized, inviting viewers into deep contemplation.
